I am a driven and creative, NCTJ-qualified arts and entertainment journalist with a wealth of experience in digital and print media. Over my five-year career in the culture and lifestyle arenas, I've covered an ever-widening range of topics while honing my special interest areas: stand-up comedy, TV and theatre.
From 2020 to early 2024, I was a culture reporter for The Independent, and am now working at Bauer Media as a news and features writer across Grazia, Heat and Closer while also freelancing. I regularly regularly contribute to publications including The New York Times, The i, Time Out London, The AV Club and Service95.
I am open to freelance interview, feature and review opportunities.
A self-proclaimed pop culture obsessive, I got my start in culture journalism back in 2019. After completing my first role working with the features team at Hello! magazine, I went freelance, splitting my time between entertainment news-writing shifts for Metro.co.uk and Bustle, and writing culture and lifestyle features for publications including The Atlantic, The Guardian and i-D.
In April 2020, I joined The Independent as a culture reporter. It was a time when, admittedly, there wasn't very much culture going on, and my first year was spent mostly writing about Tiger King and the numerous other Netflix shows the world was desperately comfort watching. In January 2021, I started Viral Laughter, an interview series profiling up-and-coming comedians who had found fame online during lockdown (Munya Chawawa, Alastair Green, Elsa Majimbo). Here, I began carving out a name for myself in comedy journalism, and have gone on to profile the likes of James Acaster, Sara Pascoe, Nish Kumar, Rose Matafeo, Rachel Bloom and Catherine Cohen. When theatres finally reopened in summer 2021, I began regularly reviewing theatre in London's West End and fringe theatre scenes and across the UK. In 2022, I was The Independent's on-the-ground critic at the Edinburgh Fringe, where I also served on the judging panel for the prestigious Edinburgh Comedy Award. I returned to the Fringe in 2023 to lead up the Indy's comedy and theatre review coverage once more, and have also been on the judging panel for the Funny Women Award and Chortle Awards.
While stand-up and theatre have been my lead areas of interest, there are many other subjects I've specialised in throughout my career. I'm a regular TV critic for The AV Club and The i, write The New York Times' weekly Doctor Who recaps, and have written extensively about Strictly Come Dancing and Love Island over the years. More random subjects I've returned to time and time again in my work include podcasting, festivals, vegan food, board games and my intense hatred of cranberry sauce. Seriously, don't get me started on the last one...
